Spring 2010 conference numbers exceed 150

ALEP committee member and enfranchisement solicitor Mark Chick took the hot seat as conference host this time around and kept proceedings moving apace and to time.

Anthony Radevsky is a barrister at Falcon Chambers who acted in Boss Holdings v Grosvenor West End Properties, a matter dealing with the legal definition of the word “house” in a property context. His keynote presentation concentrated on the controversial Kelton Court case that undermines the pivotal Sportelli rulings governing how enfranchisements are valued.

Siobhan McGrath, Senior President of the Residential Property Tribunal Service, outlined the inner workings of the LVTs under her auspices. She used the time to educate the audience about misapprehensions regarding the operation of LVTs.

Both presenters extensively used the wireless voting handsets. Results of each vote were displayed on the main screens and the presenters were able to post ad hoc questions.

Announcements included the appointment of Damian Greenish of solicitors Pemberton Greenish to the position of Honorary President of ALEP. Alan Boswell Group was announced as ALEP’s first affinity partner offering an exclusive professional indemnity insurance to ALEP solicitors. The Association has recently been revealed as an event supporter for the Enfranchisement and Right to Manage Awards and organisers News on the Block attended the conference with their stand.

The syndicates after coffee included one chosen on the day by the delegates. The subject chosen was Section 60 and Section 33 costs in enfranchisement cases, agreeing what was an acceptable scale of charges. The other syndicate was entitled ‘Will the Kelton Court decision reverse the effects of Sportelli outside Prime Central London?’.
