When property law and consumer legislation collide

The Court of Appeal recently considered a case raising the question as to how far consumer rights legislation can be relied upon by a tenant in the context of a statutory lease extension under the Leasehold Reform, Housing and Urban Development Act 1993.  The relevant consumer legislation was the Unfair Terms in Consumer Contracts Regulations 1999, which has now been replaced with near identical wording by the Consumer Rights Act 2015.
